You’re Taking it So Well!

You’re Taking it So Well!

I came out of the gym today to a bit of a problem.  The first thing that I noticed was that my trunk was open a few inches and that there were three people gathered around it.  Iheard a woman say, “There’s a purse still in trunk.”  Well, that’s good?!

As I moved closer to my car, answering that, “Yes, that’s my car,” I saw that my driver’s side window had been smashed.  The first thought through my head?  I don’t have time for this.  I promised the kids Starbucks.  I need to go to my friend’s to feed her dog.  I need a shower, and I have an appointment in 2 hours and 15 minutes.  I started mentally adjusting my schedule and trying to figure out how to make it all fit.

The response from the two gym employees and my fellow gym member – “You’re taking this so well!!”

What did they expect me to do?  Jump up and down and yell and scream?  Cuss up a storm in front of my boys?  Cry?

None of these seemed like it would be of much use, though there might have been some child inappropriate language going through my mind.

I took a quick mental catalog and realized my laptop and iPad were at home.  Phew!  Camera lenses in the trunk.  Ugh!! She was right; I can see my purse from here!  Hopefully that’s a good thing.

Not much to be done except call Mom, call my husband, call the police, arrange an appointment for the glass repair to swing by my house, and reorganize the day.  Managed to get to my first appointment less than 5 minutes late!  I may not have been quite as prepared as I might have liked, but with a little help, I was able to put it all together and get on with my day.

I guess I did take it pretty well.  It was irritating, but not debilitating.  What was my other choice?  Jump up and down?  Have a hissy cow?  How would that have helped?  Some days, we just have to make the best of it and move forward.

What would you have done?
