The Arches
After more plot twists than the TV show “The OC”, The Arches restaurant is open again and doing business at an updated location on Westcliff Drive in Newport Beach, CA. The Arches had been a landmark in Newport Beach for more than 80 years, but after changes such as moving to Cannery Village and a second harbor front location, business waned and eventually both locations, then known as ”Arches” and “Arches on the Water” were eventually both shuttered.
The current owner, Dan Marcheano, has now opened the doors to The Arches at a new location and updated the menu to include wood fired pizza, while working hard to keep the ambience of the good ole days that featured diners such as John Wayne, Gary Cooper, and Shirley Temple. For those who are not familiar with The Arches, there is a reason that these Hollywood greats dined here; the service is excellent, and the food is exceptional.
The menu at The Arches focuses on seafood, steak and salad, with specialties that include ceasar salad, stone crab claws, filet mignon, and abalone. With the new location on the corner of Westcliff and Dover came a wood fired stove installed by the Italian restaurant that was the former tenant. This new addition has led The Arches to add pizzas and barbeque ribs and pulled pork to the menu.
With such an impressive menu, and interesting history, it’s no wonder that The Arches has remained a fixture in Newport Beach despite the economic challenges and location changes. If you are a Newport Beach resident or visitor (or Marine such as the owner, Mr Marcheano) you should treat yourself to this fine dining experience at the Arches and support a peice of Newport Beach history.
The Arches is located at 1617 Westcliff Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660. They can be reached at (949) 645-7077.
