Newport Shores – Close to the Beach and the Canal

Newport Shores is located just across Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) from the beach and is just south of Huntington Beach. It is a neighbohood of 440 homes, and is surrounded by the Newport Salt March Wildlife Preserve, which many residents refer to simply as the canal.

Newport Shores homes are eclectic, ranging from the homes originally built in the 1960’s, to homes which have been remodeled and updated to completely custom homes as you’ll see below.  Some have ocean views, and some residents are fortunate enough to have homes along the canal and enjoy the wildlife which comes to visit.

Growing up, I lived in four Newport Shores homes and visited what feels like the majority of the rest of them.

This is a great place to live.  Being located right across the street from the beach, allows you to take advantage of all that beach living has to offer. Need a snack?  Just run back across the street to Newport Burgers for a burger and fries.

Tired of the beach, there is an olympic size pool in Newport Shores along with tennis courts and a lovely clubhouse.

Newport Shores homes have changed a lot since I was grew up there. Though some of the homes are still original, many have been upgraded, added on to, or completely torn down and built custom.  You can get some idea of what the differences are by looking at the pictures in this post.

In addition to the amenities in Newport Shores and its great location, it also has a Fourth of July parade which brings the community together.

It is something that my siblings and I anticipated every summer and always spent the night before decorating our bikes and, sometimes, ourselves.

The parade typically starts at 9:00 am at the clubhouse with refreshments being served.  There are usually other events throughout the day and evening. All together, it makes for a great tradition and great memories.

Newport Shores is in the Newport Mesa Unified School District and the schools for the Shores include Newport Elementary, Horace Ensign Middle School and Newport Harbor High School.

Homes in the Shores are currently selling from just under $900,000 to just under $1,700,000.
