The Girl I Was With the Law Degree Probably Wouldn’t Recognize Me

The girl I was with the law degree probably wouldn’t recognize me, and I think that’s a good thing.  I was listening to the radio the other day when a song came on talking about a woman with a business degree and how much thing had changed since graduation.

Law School Graduation

It got me thinking.  It’s been 15 years since I graduated law school.  Would that girl standing there so proudly with her newly minted law degree recognize the woman I am now.

I had a big career planned; I was going to take the world by storm, even if I had no idea how I was going to actually do it.

The day as my sister proudly placed the purple robe over my head, I had no plans for marriage, no plans for children, my plans were for myself and what I would accomplish.

Boy, how things can change in a decade and a half.

Today, I have a husband and two young sons.  I can’t imagine what my life would be without them.

Would I have “gone further”, “done more.”  How do you define that?  I have two of my own businesses. I have a terrific family.

It’s chaotic, definitely and very fulfilling.

The girl I was with the law degree might not recognize me, but I’m grateful for the changes that lack of recognition have wrought in adding to my life rather than subtracting from it.

What differences have the years brought you?  Are you grateful for them or do you wish things were different?
